At the time of Jesus, Nazareth was a small village located near the Sea of Galilee. It is the place where the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary to announce the birth of Jesus. Jesus lived, learned, and worked in Nazareth until He left to begin his ministry. He later returned home twice, only to be rejected by His own people. Visitors to Nazareth can see Mary's home, Joseph's workshop, and the Church of the Annunciation.

The Mount of Olives was the location for many important events in salvation history. Not the least of these is Christ's ascension into Heaven. Overlooking Jerusalem, pilgrims can imagine what it must have looked like as Jesus took His final step on earth before ascending to His Father. The Mount of Olives was also where Jesus wept over the future destruction of Israel, where He taught the Apostles to pray the Our Father, and where He suffered in the garden of Gethsemane.
