Welcome to St. John Vianney Parish!
In June of 1955, 300 families formed this parish. Today, we exceed 1,300
families and continue to grow in our Catholic Tradition. The children of the
parish were the first priority as a school was built and shortly thereafter, the
Church was dedicated. The children continue to be a source of priority, joy and
hope for our parish family.
John Marie Vianney, (1786-1859) lived a story to be treasured. An orphan before
he was five, he learned how to farm and resisted going to school. Feeling a call
to the priesthood, he entered seminary only to fail the Latin exam three times.
Finally, he found a bishop willing to ordain him despite his educational
liabilities and hew was sent to Ars, a remote town in southern France as his
first assignment. The town has 26 houses and 6 taverns. The bishop thought that
Father Vianney could not possibly do much harm there.
A young boy accompanied and guided Vianney to the village, a place that had been
without a priest for years. Upon arrival, legend has it that John Vianney said
to the boy "You have brought me to Ars, and now I will show you the road to
heaven."
And so it began, a quiet, unlearned, yet deeply prayerful priest brought about a
spiritual revolution. He prayed daily and often for the conversion of his parish.
Within a decade, a railroad station had to be built in the town to transport the
hundreds of pilgrims eager to encounter the wisdom of such a holy priest. Today,
Vianney is the patron saint of parish priests. Our parish carries on through his
intercession to witness and point the way to heaven.
Our parish activities range from a strong parish school and religious education
program for our children, including Scouts and Athletics, weekly scripture
studies, an Adult Catholic Spirit Club, an active "Over 50 Club", Knights of
Columbus and Council of Catholic Women. Given the diversity of activities and
events, the most important thing we do weekly is Sunday Eucharist.
We welcome the gifts you bring to our ever-growing story of faith. I invite you
to prayerfully study the information and welcome materials. Strengthen your
faith life by sharing the gifts and desires of your heart with our community of
faith.
We are formed, fed and sent forth as the Body of Christ to show others the way
to heaven. May our journey be blessed through the intercession of John Vianney.
St. John Vianney, pray for us!
Peace,
Rev. Randy J. Timmerman
