Vocations

Future Priest?

We all have a vocation or calling in life. "The vocation of humanity is to show forth the image of God and to be transformed into the image of the Father's only Son. This vocation takes a personal form since each of us is called to enter into the divine beatitude; it also concerns the human community as a whole." (ccc 1877)

The catechism also teaches us that "Love is the fundamental and innate vocation of every human being." (ccc 2392)

For many their specific vocation may be Marriage. For others it may be as priests, sisters, brothers, or deacons.

Seminarians

There is one member of our parish discerning his "calling". He is James Lesser.

You can find out more information at Meet Our Seminarians. Hear what James has to say in his own words.

Please pray for all the seminarians and especially James Leeser. You might consider sending him a message of support and encouragement.

Considering your own vocation?

If you are discerning your own vocation please consider going to the Madison Vocations website for more information.

United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website.
The USCCB vocations page has a very moving 18 Minute film on being "Fishers of Men".

Message for World Day of Prayer for Vocations 2006

O Father, raise up among Christians
abundant and holy vocations to the priesthood,
who keep the faith alive
and guard the blessed memory of your Son Jesus
through the preaching of his word
and the administration of the Sacraments,
with which you continually renew your faithful.

Grant us holy ministers of your altar,
who are careful and fervent guardians of the Eucharist,
the sacrament of the supreme gift of Christ
for the redemption of the world.

Call ministers of your mercy,
who, through the sacrament of Reconciliation,
spread the joy of your forgiveness.

Grant, O Father, that the Church may welcome with joy
the numerous inspirations of the Spirit of your Son
and, docile to His teachings,
may she care for vocations to the ministerial priesthood
and to the consecrated life.

Sustain the Bishops, priests and deacons,
consecrated men and women, and all the baptized in Christ,
so that they may faithfully fulfil their mission
at the service of the Gospel.

This we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Mary, Queen of Apostles, pray for us.

From the Vatican, 5 March 2006.

BENEDICT XVI

Traveling Chalice

To encourage prayers for vocations our parish has implemented the Traveling Chalice program. Every week a new family takes the chalice home and places it in a prominent place. It should act as a visual reminder to pray for future and current vocations.
